I read by firelight on All Hallows Night
The moon high and full in the sky
As I drifted to sleep I then heard a squeak
And it came from a place nearby
There were sounds of feet, I got up from my seat
And went out to the hall
"Who goes there?" I called to the air
And got no responce at all.
I began to feel that it wasn't for real
Imagination running wild
Then I got into bed and something touched my leg
And I screamed like a little child.
I cast light all around, for the source of the sound
That haunted me in my house
Till I saw my error, the cause of my terror
Was a starving pure white mouse
So I cut off a piece of my finest cheese
For my friend all furry white
That night I did sleep dreamless and deep
I was not alone that night.
